Digital Bookmobile on national tour thru 09

(Boston Public Library) Digital Bookmobile Coming Wednesday, August 27 to City Hall Plaza. The Digital Bookmobile is a high-tech, 18-wheel download experience with instructional videos and interactive computer stations. It's hosted by individual libraries in support of their download services and operated by OverDrive.

OverDrive is a full-service digital distributor and supplier of eBooks, audio books, music, and video. They deliver secure management, DRM protection, and download fulfillment services for hundreds of publishers and institutions (rights holders) and thousands of libraries, schools, retailers, and aggregators serving millions of end users. Founded in 1986, OverDrive is based in Cleveland, OH.

The Boston stop is part of the Digital Bookmobile's national tour promoting audiobook, eBook, music, and video downloads from public libraries. It launched on Sunday, August 10th, in New York City's Central Park. The New York digital download event was held in association with created an experience around The New York Public Library's ‘Virtual Branch' download website (The New York Public Library, ebooks.nypl.org) one of the leading public library download websites.

The Digital Bookmobile will continue to promote digital books and more from public libraries through 2009
with events scheduled across North America, including Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Cleveland, St. Louis, and Phoenix.

The Digital Bookmobile is equipped with broadband Internet-connected PCs, high-definition monitors, premium sound systems, and a variety of portable media players. Interactive computer stations give visitors an opportunity to search the digital media collection, use supported mobile devices, and sample eBooks, audiobooks, music, and video from the library.
